Hi

Just a quick question. I am connected at 5760kbps on my upto 8 meg adsl connection. What download speed should I expect with this connection ?

Cheers

8mb if your near the exchange box with recent cabling. 5.6Mbps seems fair. I'm on up to 16Mb and and get exactly that.

I can see the green box from one of my windows and it is a newish build.

Aslong as you have a good internal network, and your overheads are not too harsh from your sync to your throughput, and your downloading from a reliable server on the internet, possibly between 700-760KB/s or 0.7MB/s

Come on people...show your workings for those that don't know this stuff.
5760kbps = 5.7Mbps

8 bits in a byte means he is pulling down..
5.7/8 to be roughly 0.8MBps

Seeing the 'green box' from your window has nothing to do with your ADSL speeds.

That only means something when you get FTTC. ;)

Oh really? Fair enough. Well I'm only a 2min walk from the towns exchange building too. I always seem to get the max. One of the reasons the exchange has infinity, but I can't get it, is because standard adsl down our street is so good...so we're last on the list.

On ADSL your speed depends on the distance between your house and local BT phone exchange [anywhere from a stones throw to 5km+ away]..

With FTTC your speed depends on the distance between your house and your local BT green cabinet [anywhere from a few yards to a few hundred yards]..

I just ran a BT Wholesale speedtest and it returned the figures below.
I ran a speedtest and these are the results below, are they ok ?

Download speedachieved during the test was - 4.24 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :5.76 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5 Mbps
