Ive only got 10 days left in my 10 month contract left with Tesco 1mb unlimited im looking for a new isp ive been reading loads of reviews but i cant seem to see who is really the best.
Im really looking for a 8mb/s unlimited service and im considering BT option 3 or Pipex max but im not really sure which one and i dont want to get into a 12monts contract and have loads of problems ive also considered tesco unlimited but im not really sure i would like a supermarket dabbling with my broadband anylonger although i have never really had any problems with them.
So suggestions anyone Bt or pipex or is there another much more reliable service??

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Firstly, you will need to see what services are available in you're area (ADSL, ADSL Max, ADSL2+ (LLU), Cable). You can do this by going to the following website and putting in you're details - it should give you a rough estimate of what speeds you might be able to achieve (but this is often very unreliable), but the it will also tell you if you can get any LLU services, or cable in you're area.
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php
Click on "BT ADSL" on the left once you have entered you're details and paste what it says, then click on "LLU xDSL" further below, and tell us if you can get any LLU services in you're area.

The most reliable way to predict what speeds you can get on ADSL, is to post you're line stats which can be found in you're router settings.
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adsl_line_stats.php

BT ADSL broadband availability
You are connected to the HIDDEN telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services

According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 8Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

Standard ADSL RAG results:
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
[BT ADSL Code: GEGEGEC] You can receive 256Kbps ADSL

You are approximately 613 metres from the exchange (straight line distance).

However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

LLU xDSL presence at your exchange
You are connected to the HIDDEN telephone exchange.

The following table details the availability of LLU services at your location.

AOL is not yet available in your area
Be Unlimited is not yet available in your area
Bulldog (C&W) is not yet available in your area
TalkTalk (CPW) has not yet unbundled your exchange
Sky Broadband / Easynet is not yet available in your area
Edge Telecom is not yet available in your area
Homechoice (Tiscali) is not yet available in your area
Lumison is not yet available in your area
Node4 is not yet available in your area
Pipex is not yet available in your area
Smallworld Media is not yet available in your area
Tiscali is not yet available in your area
Orange is not yet available in your area
WB Internet is not yet available in your area
Zen is not yet available in your area

this is all i could find with relevance to line stats
System Uptime 0 hour(s) 42 minute(s)
DSL Status Connected
DSL Speed 288 Kbps Upstream, 2272 Kbps Downstream

What modem/router do you use?
Have you checked this site to help find you're line stats?
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adsl_line_stats.php

It looks like ADSL Max will be you're best bet, you should hopefully get the full 8128kbps sync, but I can't say for sure without seeing you're stats.

I doubt you will be able to get true unlimited, unless you pay a lot more. BT and Pipex are a fine example. They claim to provide unlimited, but in actual fact it is limited. They both use traffic managment, and if you go over a certain amount per month they will heavily cap you're connection.
It's better to go for ISP's that still have download caps, but who don't use traffic managment like BT and others do.
My favourite ISP's are:

Entanet resellers, like ADSL24, UKFSN, etc.
Zen (quite expensive with smallish caps though)
Newnet
IDNet

It depends how much you download per month. Entanet do some very good packages. 30GB on-peak (between 8am to 10pm on weekdays) and 300GB off-peak (all weekends, and also weekdays between 10pm and 8am).

P.S) You're signature is HUGE! I suggest you read the FAQ.

i use a D-link DSL-G604T router it didnt seem to be on that site.

Well i would say i play about 50 hours or so of online games a month nad probs download 10-15 gb of stuff movies films etc

about my sig sorry i uploaded wrong 1 i have a smaller version

It's still far too big - I'd suggest taking Zildjian and my suggestion (for the second time) and read the FAQ for the signature rules. If I (or another Don) has to remove your signature again, it'll be permanent.
