Hi

We're moving in to out first student house next week and we're trying to sort out a broadband package for when we've moved in. Can anybody recommend any broadband providers that don't make you commit to a contract? We are all moving out next summer and not staying at the property, so it's not viable to commit to a 12 month contract.

Also, I'm sure somebody will know but we don't have the phone number for the property at the moment, will we need to speak to the landlord to see if there is already a line set up and what the current telephone number is?

Thanks for any advice.

Virgin Media used to do 9 month student contracts iirc.

Plenty of ADSL isps about offering 1-3 month contracts, something like Be may be worth a look.

The other option would be to go with a PAYG stick like O2 where you top it up when you need to. It's not as fast as your average 10mbit contract-bound broadband but it's a damn sight faster than 56k. It'll be in the region of 1-2mbit.

I think aaisp do month on month contracts, supposed to have first-rate customer service and can be quite cheap if you keep your usage down during the day.

Be*, who are the best broadband providers in the UK, do 1 month contracts. Referrals aren't allowed, but I could give you some more information if you messaged me through trust... *wink wink nudge nudge*.

I'm with Be albeit through ADSL24 and can't fault them :) (once again albeit till I switch shortly to the BT Infinity)
