Broadwell desktop, pointless?

I have to say anyone rocking, and overclocking, a 2500K since launch will be stunned that really 4 years on there is nothing at a similar or even slightly higher price as a decent upgrade. Any IPC gains are offset but diminished overclocking returns.

I think on the horizon we may start to see some progress especially if AMD get competitive and Intel need to then launch 6-8 core CPUs at a mainstream price.

As for Broadwell, the Iris Pro iGPU is meant to be the main attraction, Skylake is the one to watch for Sandy Bridge users.

Hold on mate I reckon. Its a cheap time to be a pc enthusiast.

cheap but quite boring :(

I can't see me upgrading my 3770k (@4.5) anytime soon as normally for me I need to look at about a 30% min performance upgrade for it to be worthwhile

I went

E6600, Q6600, 3770k

all felt like big - worthwhile jumps

whats on the horizon that will give that sort of jump

as I said - cheap - yes - great - but a bit boring too :(

I'm in a similar boat. E8400, 2500K, 3570K (in a different pc), and I am not tempted by any mainstream chips coming up until skylake, but x99 and Broadwell E might be one to consider.
