So I was talking to a friend of mine in the states who attended the latest tech show were broadwell was being showcased *lucky git* and apparently it will be on the LGA1150 socket
Finally a new intel CPU that doesn't require a brand new motherboard :D

Intel have been pretty good with CPU's and sockets, a lot of it is ignorance.

Any 1155 board could take a Sandy and Ivy.
And X79 boards are taking Ivy-e's.

Broadwell somewhat ironically is the one I'm concerned about with sockets, as it seems a bit unknown right now.

That does seem to be the case, but there is also a rumour that intel are moving some components from off the CPU and back onto the board - meaning existing LGA 1150 boards/chipsets (eg. Z87) will not work with broadwell (or Haswell refresh), even though they use a LGA 1150 socket.

Agreed ^^

The past few gens have seen a decent support of 2 generations of CPU's per motherboard cycle. Hopefully Broadwell will continue this, I think Intel may not be singing and dancing about it as they don't to put people off X79.. Would like a 5770K drop in upgrade next year..
