So I recently bought a PS4 used (about 3 weeks ago) just to play the PS4 exclusives as I play most of my games on PC. Anyhow I was playing uncharted 1 when I accidentally pulled out the power plug for both the PS4 and TV. Now when I try to turn on the PS4 I get a signal but no display. The PS4 turns on fine and system is functioning as it should, only thing being that it doesn't display anything ( I know this because if I go into safe mode and I follow a guide on Youtube I can see what settings are where and follow them by counting the amount of times to press down on the D pad and across on the D pad, this enables me to restart the PS4 and not much else as I don't actually know what is going on. I think the issue is with the HDMI port as one of the pins is slightly shorter than the other pins (6th one on this specification page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI (TMDS Data1−)) but that has nothing to do with what happened, so I don't know any more. Going to buy a Torx 8 size screw to open the console as the smallest I have is Torx 10.

If you purchased it new, return it for a replacement or call Sony to do it under warranty.

It could be used/second hand - from the wording of his post - it's a bit ambiguous. You could read it one of two ways.

But if you didn't buy it second hand OP - as above it would be a simple return under warranty.

Yes I have tried a different display, I tried a monitor and a different TV. Although the funny thing is that on the other TV it was just no signal. I checked the warranty and it's long gone, Sony wants 125 for repair which is more 35 quid more than what I played for it in the first place. So looks like I will have to fix it myself or sell it as broke and buy another cheap one.

Thing is really, you can poke it all you want but if you don't know exactly whats up with it then what are you actually expecting to do inside it?

See if the cooler is on too tight, apparently that has caused some issues and see whether or not something has burnout (like a resistor) or something. I just find it weird that it just broke like that, Sony must really be making **** consoles.

Have you tried turning it off and then holding down the power button until it beeps? This will reset the display settings.

I figured the issue out with the PS4, my HDMI IC chip is fried as I could see it's juices spilled all over the board, just got to test my theory with a multimeter now to make sure that is the issue.

I did a quick google and there is a company doing the repair for £75. Seems a common issue. 3 day turn around.

sorry - wrong thread

I rather buy the tools and teach myself, got to learn somehow. I got basic skills and want to improve upon them hence why.

But admire that - i'm the same.

I stripped one of my xboxs and got it working - more by luck than judgement though...
