Broke PC after GPU upgrade

Upgraded to a 3090. Mbb is ASUS Maximus VIII Gene which gives a 00 code.

Reseated old GPU, checked all wires, RAM and power.

Still same 00 code.

Did you knock anything when you installed the gpu? Check all your power connectors on your gpu and mobo. Also check the psu end if it's modular.

yep checked all the power connectors on both ends, checked the CPU and RAM.

Tried with no GPU and still same error.

Have you tried to clear the cmos on the motherboard?

yep, also remove the battery and power, sit for 30 mins, then reinster and power back on. Still same error.

Any chance you knocked your cpu cooler mite be worth checking cpu socket, bit of a long shot.

00 code on asus is no cpu detected. Could also mean not getting enough power. re-seat cpu and maybe test again with old gpu and see if that boots in before putting the 3090 back in

I'm struggling to see how your gpu could have taken out your cpu - mobo is definitely a likely suspect as the psu also doesn't work with your old gpu.

Is your mobo warped at all?

No it looks OK. Maybe I should try and reflash the BIOS? or take everything out?

Ok, so looks like the mbb was damaged. I got a new mbb (the exact same model) and it posts but no display is outputted using either HDMI or DP.

The 3090 works fine in a more modern PC.

It's not impossible - I've had that problem in the past where a mobo has a weird pcie revision. Could be bios related of its posting?

Try the GPU in the secondary slot.

I have not tried your motherboard before but I know that some default to outputting video using the inbuilt gpu, so first thing I would try is using the hmdi on the output panel on the back of the pc.

yes its outputting from the motherboard fine, but just not the GPU.

yep my old GPU still works fine when i swap it over.
