Broken 360 DVD drive (little different!)

Hi Guys,

My neighbor asked me to have a look at his lads xbox 360 (something I'm not familiar with really).

Long and short of it is someone trod on the dvd drive tray while it was open and has snapped the tray and some associated bits inside.

I'm aware that I cannot just swap the drive out as its paired and any tomfoolery in this area would go against the forum rules...

But, if I could find the same drive, could I make one good drive out of the two using the logic board from the old drive? Would the pairing remain intact? What I can see inside the drive looks ok aside from bust plastic.

I did this with an original 20GB version a few years ago, by taking the control board off the broken drive and fitting it to the good drive. I don't know if the more modern consoles have drives that allow this, if you have one.

Seems like a lot of faff for a console that isn't even your own.
If buying a replacement dvd drive is not on the cards then buy a new console imo.

Good to know, I can't see why it wont work just dont want to go down that road.

Really? The guy lost his job 1 week before christmas and is a single dad so money is not really abundant at the moment hence my offer of help (tis the season and all that!)

Yep, they're pretty easy to get hold of too last time I checked.

new or second hand IDENTICAL drive then swap the logic/controller board from the old busted DVD drive into the new one

Price of brand new DVD drives vary with make around £30 or look on the bay for a busted console with working DVD
