Hi,
Just a quick question, I'm getting a 'broken' 4850 for 10 pounds, thought let's have a try...

The guy says the screen started flickering, he rebooted and the card wouldn't display screen anymore. It's a Gainward golden sample. He has not tried the oven trick.

You guys think I have a shot of getting it working after some oven time? :D

Regards

That's what I thought, any other thoughts on fixing this? In case it won't work.

Funnily enough I was thinking about this the other day.

There's a few guides out there showing how to replace bad caps, and do solder work, but none of them seem to tell you how to diagnose what the problem is to begin with.

If it's the actual chip, there's nothing you can do unless you have another faulty card with a working chip. But how do you test it to find out what's wrong?

Would be interesting to find out a bit more about this...

Ok I've just received the card, tried it in crossfire on my x38, no problem! Fans spin up, boot into windows (monitors on my 4870) Catalyst/Gpu-z recognises them and I have played Bad Company 2 in crossfire, so the card seems to work. Now i've put it in my gf's rig and I get no output on both dvi ports :(

So it seems there is something with the output...

I've got a few questions, maybe some of you can answer it?

1. Do you still think the oven trick would work?
2. Will the fan connector points melt in the oven? They seem plastic :p
3. Should I just crossfire it?
4. Any other suggestions? :)
