Hello peeps, I am a newbie so treat me carefully.

I had a problem that started 2 weeks ago. The flat screen started going blank every 10 mins or so, then every 5 secs etc etc until it died. I put an an old screen in and that didn't work.

My machine was loading but kept refreshing back to start-up. It kept doing this and has now gone to a screen that tells me what machine I have got with a cursor flashing.

The keyboard doesn't work and I am on my old machine trying to find advice here.

Help please.

So how far along boot would it get before returning to the beginning? windows logo screen? end of bios sequence?

oh and yes very heavily moderated! lol

Have you seen any errors or other indications that it's specifically a hard drive problem? I'd be more inclined to believe it's a problem with motherboard, processor, or RAM.

The whole machine began to rapidly stop. The screen kept on going black and it increased.

When I switch it on now, it simply sits at a black screen with the AMD processor advert telling me what size my computer is.

The cursor just blinks, keyboard doesn't work and inserting the original XP cd does nothing.

I think I might have been Trojan Horse'd in the middle of the night!

Only way a trojan horse would stop the system booting is by doing something nasty to the system BIOS, and while not impossible that's pretty unlikely.

Try hitting Esc or Tab while the logo is visible. This may make the logo go away and give some more useful diagnostic information. If not, you'll have to change the BIOS settings to disable the BIOS POST logo.

This should hopefully result in some messages that will give us something more to work with. If it does, post them here.
