i managed to spill a drink on my laptop, and the keyboard was never the same.

I took it out and tried to dry it, but even with the keyboard in pieces, the arrow keys would still press themselves even after id cleaned the contacts. It was ruined.

So i ordered a new keyboard from ebay - £15 job done. However when i was trying to clip the ribbon cable in, i couldnt get the clamp to clamp down on the ribbon cable. Bit of fiddling later ive broke the clip. But the keyboard didnt come with another one and i cant seem to find one anywhere. I got a spare one from a mate, for a toshiba, but its too big. It must be specific to the model.

Any idea where i can find a clip for the ribbon cable of a keyboard for a dell laptop ? :(

Or failing that, any idea how i can bodge it ?

ok,

the clip thats damaged, its on the system board im guessing?

in which case i can only say good luck sourcing one :(

I havent seen anywhere that will sell them :(

sorry to be the messenger with the bad news, could see you had, had a few views but no replies. Hope someone comes along with better news.

Just thought though, if its a foxconn connector maybe an email to them?

What model is the laptop? Also it might be possible to wedge a piece of card/plastic (think OHP sheets) in the socket with it on the the side that has no contacts as once its in it doesn't move about much.

I had a totally broken clip and someone showed me a real neat trick...

only one side of the ribbon cable has the bare connectors on, on the OTHER side he jsut put layers of celotape until it was a perfect fit into the connector!!

you have to be fairly near in lineing the edges up so you dont end up with a total mess round the edges...
