Well at least I broke down before getting on the motorway :D

The bike basicity stopped at a roundabout as I was trying to pull away and after that I could not start it again.

Before the RAC guy put the charger cables on it it had about 11 volts.
So after a quick charge the bike started fine again.

The rac followed me home and he did some tests after connecting his 12 volt battery to mine and my one was not charging very good still never hitting 14 volts on 3k-4k revs he said.

He said it could the regulator rectifier more then the battery.
I am not sure what to do buy a regulator or battery?

My bike a Yamaha XJ 600 2001 Diversion.

Thanks for a advice you can give me.

Not sure how old the battery is not had the bike long myself but I am thinking it's the the original one going by the dirt/dust on top but I could be wrong.

I have seen one regulators on ebay about £40 but I will check tomorrow what my one looks like.

Thanks.

Buy a battery first, the MF gel ones are cheap and last well, then ride around locally and see if it cuts out again

Readings can be tricky with regulators,a chap tested mine and it just showed 12v but all it needed was a new battery, and that's been around 3 years ago,its still going strong

You can also unbolt the rectifier and clean the earthing points where it bolts to the frame, that might help

Thanks I will give the cleaning a try tomorrow.

I am 50/50 regulator or battery but the battery does look old so.

A new battery not a bad thing to have any ways lol.

(update)

My m8 thinks it could be the stator so three things I need look at now :(

And here some pics of the regulator connections and they got some yellow gel crap on the pins?

Done some testing today with another 12v battery and that seems to working fine hitting 14+ volts.

My battery was losing a lot of power even with no lights but my friends one was fine on idle.
So ordered new battery and it should be fixed I hope.

How old is current battery? if it's showing 14v with other battery then new battery will fix it,can Also scratch/clean the connector terminals with a small flatbladed screwdriver

@wazza300 not sure how old the battery is could have been in there years only had the bike a while myself.

Kermit on idle the volts where dropping all the time and on res it would not go higher then 13 something volts.

My friends battery had no problem going 14+ when connect to my bike with 3-5k revs.
I do think it's battery but can't alway tell 100% till it comes tomorrow and a new battery never hurts :D

Thanks.
