Broken hardware, what to do?

Hi guys

So recently my computer died and I isolated the problem down to either the cpu or motherboard. My first question is, is there any possible way of testing which of these components is the one that is damaged? The cpu is a intel 5820k and the motherboard is an ASUS x99-s and I don’t have any spares of either that I can use to test.
Also, could I sell both components as broken on eBay? Would there be much point?

Any help is appreciated! Kind regards

Zinnkio

It’s very hard to kill a cpu unless mishandled or overvolted even then... I’d start with the motherboard but only way to test properly is try with different board/cpu. Have you tried latest bios for motherboard?

99% it's the board, those X99 boards are frail as hell, and yes I talk from experience.

Good luck finding one though, they're worth £50 at most nowadays yet people seem to want the original prices for them for some reason. If you get it sorted drop me as trust, I've got a 5930k here in the drawer you can have :)

I’ve traveled with my pc a lot recently in the car and I also recently took it apart to clean it and it was after the clean it finally died (hard freeze when loading windows). I think you’re right that the motherboard has had its time.

The parts were going to go to my SO because she wants to get into pc gaming so if a new motherboard could do the trick that would be awesome for her. Might have a look for a motherboard and give you a shout :) +trust

Ask in the MM, I had a few bites when I asked a couple of years ago but ended up just buying a whole new system. Just double checked and I've got the CPU here, offer's open if you want it :)

Apologies, it's the Member's Market. It's basically a classified for loyal forum members. I thought you met the criteria for some reason (1k+ posts) but it seems you have a way to go yet.

Hey man. I've seen a mobo for £100 (like you said they're retaining their value for some reason) so I might go for it. Might take you up on your offer too if still possible. How much would you want for your CPU?

Looks like whatever you posted wasn't allowed. Sorry that I don't have the required amount of posts to do the members market thing. Is another platform for communication an option?
