The heater on my Peugeot 308 seems to be broken, the fans only blow cold air. Are there any simple and cheap things I can do to fix this or is it a job for a garage?

Air lock in/near the heater matrix, faulty heater matrix, low coolant, dodgy thermostat not opening and allowing coolant to enter the heater matrix, could be a few things.

Its probably because its a Peugeot though. :D

Possibly a daft question it have you got any water in it? Pugs love air locks so low coolant could be causing it

Indeed, Loss of heating is often the first symptom of general water loss from the cooling system.

Simple and cheap! French Car (Or any modern car for that matter :()

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

;) :p

All of these and more are common on peugeots, good luck OP, enjoy the winter!

Broken temperature selectors on the dash are common too, the fancy ones with climate control can have the control modules go down or the divert mechanism seize.

Don't get as many clogged matrix's as we used to, was always oddly satisfying to pull the pipes and put the jet wash through them... Don't judge me!

Yeah everyones pretty much covered what it would be. I had this issue on my ford fiesta, started off flushing coolant, didn't solve it, changed thermostat, didn't solve it, changed heater matrix, didn't solve it, changed interior dials, solved it :P

All in all it didn't cost me much just a fair chunk of time. Although I'm sure its just as easy on a 308 if not easier. Those damn ****** hose clamps man.

Is the engine reaching temperature? Could be the thermostat stuck open so the engine isn't warming up.

Had this problem with my old Focus. easy way to work this out is if the car is left running for a while without driving does the temp rise and then drop again when you drive.

Do you have a temp gauge on the dash and does this move and heat up as the engine runs?

Had it in my Volvo where the gauge didn't move just had to change the thermostat over.

Thanks for the responses, just checked the coolant and it's empty (oops). The engine temperature sensor does seem to work but it never gets too hot surprisingly, probably just because it's cold that it hasn't overheated yet :p

Needless to say, I will be buying some tomorrow and topping it up...

Had this issue on my old cheapo Tigra, spent weeks looking for heatercores and how to do it.. then noticed it had no coolant in the reservoir.. cheapest, easiest fix ever

This!

The heater flaps snapping are a common problem across the Peugeot range, particularly on cars with Climate Control - fixing it is a pain..
