I went to change the lampshade on my landing light, and when I put the bulb back in, some fragments of hard plastic fell onto my stepladder. They came from the inside of the B22 fitting, so it must had perished inside. There is nothing for the bulb to hold onto.

If I buy one of these, is it something that I can easily replace by myself or would I need to call an electrician? Obviously I know that I need to turn the fusebox off. Just wondered how easy it is. My DIY level is flat pack assembly level e.g. I can put together an Argos wardrobe or workstation no probs.

Not that difficult to fix - few options in order getting easier

1 - replace entire pendant
2 - replace flex and lampholder
3 - replace just lampholder

make sure power is off etc

If you do the whole pendant best to take a pic of the wiring before disconnecting anything or mark the wires

If not too confident just go for changing the lampholder only, just disconnect the old 1 and new one from the new pendant and check the wires are the same length or strip them to the size of the flex that came out the new lampholder, so that it fits in the cable restraint properly, screw into terminals and wrap around cable restraint notches
