Broken mobo or CPU more likely?

Hi all,

Just checking to see what you think is the more likely culprit.

CPU is an E6300, mobo a P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP

I tested with a graphics card that works (and is in my server) and memory that works (from my dads PC, also the same mobo). Basically the only faulty items can be the CPU or mobo. Also the CPU is using a Scythe Infinity cooler and I have reseated this checking the AS5 I used and it has spread over the entire IHS (which is very slightly concave)....temps were around 31oC for the CPU when it did POST. And another note, I disconnected all peripherals like HDDs and optical drives.

Usually I get nothing, no beeps, nothing, everything powers on tho, but the gfx card fan stays at full speed. 3/4 times it has POSTed but each time it froze while in the BIOS within 10 mins....the reset button did nothing in this state.

So which is more likely to be borked? Any thoughts happily received :)

Many thanks,

Paul.

It's highly unusual to get a borked cpu. Law of averages would strongly point to the motherboard.

That's what I was thinking....the mobo would normally beep warnings at me if the CPU was borked I think.
