Hi guys,

Purchased these Logitech Z 5500 a few years ago and my drunk friend fell on the cable being connected to the back panel and snapped 3 or so pins from it.

Here are some pics to describe what I'm talking about:

Now how does one go about fixing this? I've tried putting paper clips in the cable in an attempt to "join" the broken one and the paperclip together to no avail... Should I just order a part from somewhere and take the backplate off and refix it? I'm lost with technical small part terms, so I wouldn't know what to look for

if you're able to solder a new connector on, they you can search on the bay for
vga 15 pin Female Right Angle D-sub Connector

Contact Logitech support, they're very helpful.

Had it about 4 years, not sure if my warranty is still void, would that matter? I mean in all honesty what could they do in this case?

Will have to get myself a solder kit too then, might be worth taking it to the local technical shop, guess they will charge something rotten though.

Just going to revive this thread, I have since contacted Logitech who no longer support my sound system. Great, so I thought I would get it fixed by a local electrical store. They came back with a quote of £50!

What do people think i should do in this case? :O

Bin them buy some new ones, unless you're really attached to them for some reason or use it as a test bed to learn how to strip them down and solder on new connectors.

Buy this and some cheap soldering/desoldering tools and learn how to solder, it will probably cost you about £10-£15 (inc. cheap tools) to replace or tell your drunk friend to learn how to solder and let him fix it lol.

Looks like a PCB mount to me unless Logitech change it.

It does look like a PCB mount connector now that we see that side, if that is the same connector of course.

It's not that easy to desolder 15 D-sub pins. Might need a solder sucker or maybe solder braid to get rid of the solder.
