Broken Pump?

I bought a Reserator 2 about a year ago which worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago when in the mornings I'd turn on my PC there'd be no flow. After about about half an hour of jiggling the damn thing and getting air bubbles out of the CPU block it would finally start up and work fine for the rest of the day (how the hell was air getting into an air-tight system anyway you may ask!?). Eventually I got sick of this morning routine after one particularly frustrating attempt to get it working and decided I'd try replacing the coolant. Anyway my coolant came this morning and I'm having an absolute nightmare of a time getting it circulated around the system, that's without attaching the external tubing, so simply getting it circulating around the Reserator itself. Is there an easy way to determine if the pump is faulty? I've done the sound check and it sounds fine (it's making a sort of humming noise like you'd expect). I've spent the past hour trying to get coolant circulated and I feel like I'm getting no where with it.
