I've been given an old laptop with a broken screen, A Toshiba Satellite Pro A100, with a view to replacing the screen.

Done a quick search for A100 screens and they are about £70/£80.

Do I have any other options, i.e. buying another old 15.4 laptop with fried mobo and using that screen? Are all the screens generic?

Hmmmm. OK. The laptop itself is pretty old. 1G RAM, Celeron 1.7G. Saw one on ebay buy it now for £150.

Worth it?

Yes! If the screen is physically smashed (but shows some light if you know what I mean) then do it! Replacing a laptop screen is easyish if you take your time not to break the bezel. Check it on an external screen first though, to see if the machine is otherwise ok

if you need any advice I've changed loads of laptop screens. You could make an easy fifty squid or more
