Just today the silent switch has broken off my iPhone 3G. Have tried pushing it back in but it continually falls out so wondering if I will get any help from Apple.
I've had the phone since November 08 and didn't take out insurance.

I heard at some point that the warranty was modified to only last 12 months irrespective of how long your contract was, is this applied retrospectively? I'm sure I bought the phone before this was announced so wondering if anyone can clarify for me.

At best would Apple fix it as a goodwill gesture (as I've seen a few mentioned here before), or will they tell me to gtfo.:p

Thanks in advance.

Was in store today was was given a few options;

New handset at £130
Third party repair
Fix myself

While I could glue it it's very fiddly and seems likely to glue the whole thing together so guess I'll just live with it.

Having tried to do it minus the glue before I found even with applying pressure with a table I can't get it to sit in as deep as a normal one.:p

See I was very nice to the guy and had a good enough raport with him, (I had wondered what attitude he might have with the whole "genius" title etc) but it was fine, atmosphere was very friendly and all. The problem is I have no warranty, insurance, applecare etc so it literally is only a favour.

May try again or failing that phone up O2 and see if they will be nice.
They've been my provider for over six years, I have the iPhone and my broadband with them. Think loyalty will win me something?

I live in NI so Belfast is my only option I think.:p

only if faulty from day 1 it would get replaced, unless apple are nice

To be fair I had contemplated this, Googling around shows many people with this issue albeit they had it within days and not 17 months. :p

Bout 4.5 months out. If it's worth anything I do intend on buying a MacBook Pro upon the next revision. Though they probably hear tales of people saying they might not buy if they don't help so that's hardly a threat. If I knew how the work times was it would be fine, don't wanna bump into the same guy again. :p
