Broken tweeter :O - help :O

just twokked my dads speakers from down stairs after convincing him he should have my smaller ones :)

a pair of Mordaunt-Short MS series (MS20i Pearl edition)

but the tweeter on one of them seems to be borked !
what could this be ?

they're bi-wire type speakers, all connected correctly but theres just no sound coming out the tweeter. and a loose wire seems unlikely.

will this be expensive to fix? or easy to do my self ? or could it be somethign im overlooking

sounds naff with only one working, as my right side is very detailed and balanced where as the sound on the left is flat and kinda lifeless :(

Haha how freaky, same thing happened to my MS20is a few months ago. If you are SURE there is no loose cables, and the jumpers between the HF and LF posts are making contact, then you might want to look into buying a new tweeter. It is worth swapping them over first though to make sure one is faulty.. They are easily removed by unscrewing the 4 screws that surround them. When replacing them make sure you connect the wires up the correct way (brown goes to terminal with mark on it, white to unmarked terminal).

The only place I could find which stocks the MS20i tweeters is http://www.lockwoodaudio.co.uk/. They are great and had my tweeter delivered very quickly. You have to pay with cash / cheque or transfer though, no debit / credit card forms!

::EDIT:: price was around 30 quid for the new tweeter I think..

the speakers are bi wire, but theyre not wired up like tru bi-wire with 2 channels.
iv'e swapped the speakers round, without changing anything and the tweater is Borked.
quite suprising to be honest... didn't think things like this happened often.
thanks so much for the link to that site, ill have to order one up pronto... or mybe my dad will since technically theyre his speakers ;)

oh by the way, for the record i have had the twaeters out, no loose wires, and also the input terminals... nothing suspect there either.

thanks for the help.

Rick
P.S how are these speakers regarded in the hi-fi world ?
