My 6 month old 360 has failed, 3 red lights of doom! (what a suprise :p)

Should I take it back to the store where they will swap it straight out or send it back to Microsoft?

If I take it back to the store I will loose the saved games on the HD (not too bothered about this) but if I send it back to Microsoft I'd probably get a refurb'd unit?

Thinking it'll just be easier to get it swapped out at the store...

Take it to the store imo when my mates died they just swopped the harddrives over.

Take it to the store and ask them if they'll let you swap the hard drives round (Providing they give you a brand new premium pack, heck they might only ask for the 360)

The hard drive is no use to them at all.

Yeah pretty much everywhere will let you swap out the hard drive. It's still a little annoying though as once you get the replacement, any Arcade games and other premium content that you have purchased, you can only use when connected to Live. In fact, I have some content that I downloaded for free (Family Guy theme for instance) that I simply cannot use anymore on my replacement Xbox :(

I'll take it down the store and ask them to swap the HD out for me then.

When I rang at first they said I'd have to ring Microsoft but I helpfully reminded them that I can take it back within 12 months. They said I'd need everything though (which I've got so wont be a problem) but I would loose everything on my HD as they have to swap out the complete package.

If you didn't have all the stuff, I don't see why they couldn't just replace the bits you do have and leave the rest in the box? Not very good customer service if you ask me.

Yeah I can't see there being a problem, not sure who I spoke with over the phone but I'm sure if I speak to the manager down there they wont have a problem swapping the drives over.

What's the procedure for getting it replaced by Microsoft just out of interest?

Ring them and they usually send someone to pick up your 360, you only have to give them the console.

If the store don't let you swap the hard drive out I'd take it to the manager or whatever tbh.

My 6 month ols 360 just died to. I think it was the Forza 2 demo that killed it as it just crashed last light when I was playing it then when I restarted the 360 I got TROD (The rings of death). The thing is I just left it on for a while (about 20 mins with TROD) and then restarted it. I was playing other games and it was working, I the tried Forza 2 again this morning and it crashed again then I got TROD. I am very disappointed with the quality of the 360 as I hardly even play it, I am reluctant to snd it back to microsoft because they just hand out referbs but then again if I go to the shop where I bought it, exchaging it for a new one doesnt mean The new one will last either. I really think Microsoft should be bought to task about the build quality of the 360. I mean the sad part is I wasn't surprised that mine died. I have had consoles for 20 years and this is the first console to die on me. If mine was a one off then it wouldn't be so bad but its not. Its the norm for the 360 to break down. It will be interesting to see how many launch consoles are still alive in 2 years time. Microsoft should at least admit there is a problem with the console.

My rant is over!

I think this is where the ps3 will come into play tbh, the 360 just aint reliable as a console they are meant to last 5-6 years can you imagine how many 360's we will go through to get that time, we all lauged abit about the ps3 but i have to say there seems to be very little reliability problems with it.

Yeah the reliability is worrying me, I'll either sell this as a new premium console when I get it exchanged and buy a ps3 or I'll look into the extended warranty I think.

Thing is with refurbs is that they are probably fixed better than off the production line because the engineers are aware of the common problems. I would worry getting a refurb.

Got it replaced in store anyways :) But they didn't allow me to swap the HD's out and the manager wasn't there, not too bothered about that anyway, probably prefer having everything new, plus I kept my old headset!

May sell it on the bay, will fecth £220+.

Can then get a brand new Premium Console with Crackdown, GOW and GRAW:2 for £289.99.

So works out at £23 for each of those games new, plus a new 12 month warranty
