Hi there, My bro has just encountered an annoying problem. He tried to install NFS Carbon and it got to 39% and crashed. He reset the computer but now when you turn the computer on the post screen appears then after that it goes to the next screen (the "boot from cd..." screen) and will then just go back to the post screen. Basically it won't even get to the Windows XP loading screen. I'm thinking his installation of windows is borked but he doesn't want to have to format as its got his uni work on there :/

He did mention that the screen flashes on and off in between each screen (though I don't think that this is the problem) Temperatures are ok in BIOS (25C for system temp and 34C for the CPU).

He is using a A64 3000+, MSI K8n-neo2-fx, 2x512 DDR (generic)

Any takers?
Thanks in advance

Could be graphics driver related. Can you get into safe mode?

Even if you have to reinstall windows you could just drop it over the top of the existing one. Its not a good solution but it gives your bro chance to copy all his work off before reformatting properly

edit: actually based on the fact its generic RAM its quite possible that is the cause. If it had an error while preparing data to be written to the disk it could have corrupted some system files. You could try doing a repair with the win xp disk

Yeah I have a caddy here with me, problem is he's in sheffield and I'm in Leicester :/ . I suppose it's partially his fault as he knew that there were some files missing/corrupt and didn't save his work on his non-windows partition.....Format time then, but I will tell him to use the recovery console and see if that sorts the problem, and no he can't get into safe mode, last known good configuration, or booting normally through the "F8" screen so looks like his windows installation has become corrupt.

Thanks for your help dudes
