Brothers computer still playing up!

Basically here's what has happened so far!

1) Purple,Brown screen in games = purchased a power cool 650w power supply

2) Purple Screening remained = Purchased another graphics card, FIXED

Moving on many months ahead

1) Freeze up in games, sound loops = Purchased a new sound card, thought it was a real tek issue

2) Still freezing up = Put everything on default clocks

3) Freezing up in games, unable to do a memtest as screen kept on going black, unable to use BIOS black screening within 1min. BSOD in windows with ati and dx errors = Replaced graphics card with a fully tested known working 560 ti

4) Was working fine for a day, but now during gaming the usb keyboard and usb mouse disconnects, then the game scrashes.

Could this be a PSU issue?

Why skimp on the PSU?
Have you got another PSU to test?

Spec of the build as well.

Have you tried a fresh install with fully up to date drivers on a test partition? Is the boards BIOS up to date also?

I haven't skimped

It comes down to cost and what he could afford at the time, no other PSU. Hopefully he can buy one with a good price that's not a no brander

It's a bit old though, board wise ASROCK PENRYN/Q6600

What temps are things running at when loaded?

Have you stress tested individual components to try and wheedle out a root cause?

Has his comp ran hot and full of dust for a time? Or is it a cool/clean system?


Regardless of all that, maybe it is just time to give up the ghost and start anew, from the PSU up!

Previously his computer was so dusty I had to use a tooth brush to clean out the heatsinks!

I'll get him to do a memtest/prime e.t.c asap

as BIOS screen was going Black that would rule out drivers as they are not loaded, but USB connections can cause problems and or K/Board, usb Mouse, try another K/board, and mouse combination to rule out!
