Ok guys ive now built now brothers pc. Which are the same parts as mine are which i have got here ready to build. So ive just overclocked this 2600k from 3.4 to 4.8. Quick question though, why doesnt the overclock show up in OS or whilst loading. Ive turned speedstep off but that hasnt helped. I want to be able to see system say 4.8

The motherboard is asus p8z68 v pro

Run Prime95 and check the frequency with CPU-Z.

Ill run prime later mate, just want to get this bit sorted first

The point is if you run Prime95 with CPU-Z open you should see the processor at 4.8GHz.

Windows only shows the stock speed of the processor.

My processor is currently overclocked to 4.6GHz and this is what Windows shows:

Wouldn't 4.8 Oc constant do some damage to the cpu or would it be ok to run constant, my Q6600 was clocked to 3.4 but wasn't constant until cpu was under load.

That's SpeedStep at work.

My 2600K idles at 1.6GHz and goes up to 4.6GHz when required.

Saves electricity and increases the life of your CPU.

For some reason the OP has switched this off and needs to have the CPU running at 4.8GHz constantly

Speedstep is disabled, what else can cause it not to show. My last I7 showed all the time but that. Wasnt sandybridge

I really don't know what you're trying to do.

There's no reason to disable SpeedStep. It saves electricity and prolongs the life of the CPU.

The CPU will clock up to 4.8GHz as soon as you do something which needs it.

I don't care about saving electricity. I've had 6 Intel cpus before this and disabling speedstep has always showed the actual overclock. There must be a way to have it show all the time.

On your head be it.

You will have to disable speedstep (EIST) and C1E.

Turn off Turbo Boost as well if you've overclocked by increasing the multiplier.

Turn off Turbo Boost and the other C states then and see where that gets you.

There's not a lot of information on this as you're doing what 99.99% of users would never do as it's unnecessary.
