He built his new pc today and the powr is coming on but his hdds are powering and his gpu isnt posting but fan is on

Nothing displaying on screen, specs below

1055t x6 2.8ghz
Gtx 560 ti
Giagabyte 870a ud3
16gb corsair vengeance
600w ocz psu

ive just tested another gpu for him and also ram , i gues its the mobo then ? if so what can i try for him , reset the cmos with the barrier thingyor ?

try leaving mb battery out for 30minutes and try with only one ram stick installed

what cables you using? hdmi/dvi/vga? try with each one if your monitor supports them

It could be a faulty PSU - I had this problem once where everything appeared to be powering but no video (and no beep codes either) Replaced it and voila, it all worked again.

nope don't have a speaker connected :(
ok, have you checked all the connections? Does the GPU require 2 x power connectors plugged in?

otherwise start from scratch.
Remove the mobo from the case and put it on a non-conductive surface (the foam pad from the mobo box is ideal).
plug in cpu & fan, 1 stick of RAM, gpu (connect power as required), connect psu and power it on.

forgot to meantion it was preapplied overclocked , only a minor but that might effect it , im going to pull out the battery and try what he said :)

What do you mean>? Bought as an overclocked CPU/MOBO bundle or whole pc?

You don't want to pull out the battery as that will reset all the overclock settings....

i got it from a family member :P , but he diddnt take out the overclock before giving me it , he gave me cpu, mobo, gpu just wondering if resetting everything will rule out one thing .

If it was all working when he gave it to you and its the same cpu/mobo/gpu - all plugged into the same sockets then it should all still work as before.

Unless something has been changed/your PSU is underpowered/something isn't getting power/there is a short somewhere in the case you've put it in.

Resetting the bios/cmos is a last resort and will take everything back to default - you'll lose the overclock settings but it might solve any issues. Thats the trade off if you have checked everything else...

Sweet , he replaced his PSU and everything seems to be working fine now :) must have just been lack of power since the fans where spinning slow etc and LED's where blinking.
