Posted a few times about planned upgrades and as I do prices and specs change. I really don't want to spend more than 2-300 at present on upgrades so I dont know whether to upgrade my motherboard to a PCI-E and get a new gfx card and stick with current cpu or stick with current mobo and gfx card and go for a 4800+.

Conroe is not an option as this would render much of my current hardware useless including the recently bought memory. Any ideas on this would be greatly received. Mainly a gamer.

DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D £76.36
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-175-AM) £93.99
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) £152.74
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR) £16.44

£8.50 delivery

= £348.06

sell
cpu for £40
motherboard for £25
graphics card for £90 to £110 as its AGP.

do me a favour and drop me an e-male as id like to ask you about those parts but what i want to ask would break a forum rule.

cheers,

same as above but with an x2 3800+, will be about £360 but well worth it.

that all depends ;)

if you think youl use both cores, i.e. you encode a lot ect ect then go for the X2, if your just an average gamer / net user then go for the single core option and clock it.

If you're a gamer, you'll be hard pushed to beat this set-up for the money. I got one of the 4000+ SDs recently with an Ultra D and it's sitting quite happily at 3.18GHz - couple that with that 3500LL (excellent RAM) and one of these:
HIS ATI Radeon X1900 GT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-057-HT) (a couple of quid cheaper than the X1800 above on this week only)
and you've got yourself a cracking little gaming rig for not a huge outlay.
