Has anyone here ever got to drive their bike / car flat out on a runway or similar ? (with proper speed measurement etc)

I'd love to have a go at a place like bruntingthorpe but it's pretty hard to track down ways to do this (and not even sure if the public can access places like this)

Any other venues ?, I don't wanna do 1/4 mile stuff just a top speed run :)

Would be fun to compare you epeen top speed with actual ;)

Yeah, I've been a couple of times. First time was with RiDE magazine - always worth registering on their site because if they do a feature on your bike you might get invited to participate. This was the thread:

Then went back with the owners club. I didnt organise it so not sure who you contact, but it didnt cost us much each - certainly a lot cheaper than a trackday.

Yup been there in my old cordoba coupe 16v, flat out for 2 miles knowing its legal is great.
Seatcupra.net have had a couple events there and Alconbury.

I've been to Brunters twice, once to drive and once to specate. Both times were privately "booked" with only a few of us. They just charged per hour per car. We also borrowed timing gear etc.

I didn't have anything to do with organising though, so not sure how to do it.

Yep, did a top speed day and blew my engine!! :( Was a VERY expensive few hours fun!

You can book it privately although I think the minimum is 2 hours at a time (at around £50 ph). A road angel will give a pretty accurate top speed if you don't have access to datron or similar equipment.

Just be careful with noise - you're ok on the straight but there is a noise meter as you go round the right hander at the bottom. I tripped it and got an official warning!!

The surface is also pretty rough and wind can hit you hard as you come past the trees about 3/4 of a mile in. Otherwise its as safe a way to do silly speeds as there is. :)

I drove munchers VX220 and my Racing Puma at brunters for a Vmax event. Was fantastic ....... Shame we couldent get some kind of OcUK Brunters day lol

I went there on a photoshoot for classic ford magazine, I have no idea of the cost as I wasn't paying for it. RIDE turned up to test out a GSXR1000 and a TL1000 at lunch time too.

I've been there a few times in the past and will be there again soon for VMax. I offered my GT3 to the Lightning Preservation Society a year back with a view to running it side by side with a Lighning so we could raise some money but the insurance was silly money. A real shame as they ran a CSL alongside a Hunter a couple of years back!

Pretty sure there is a PH VMAX event there this weekend... or pretty darn soon anyway

Yes it is this weekend. I've been to 3 of the previous ones, my friends RS4 and my RS2. His RS4 did 186 and mine did 181. It is a 2 mile straight so thats not flat out but close i guess. GTi International is there this year as well.

My friends B5 RS4 did 186, although its modded slightly and is pushing 480bhp. Standard B5 RS4's were doing 170 ish, the B7 RS4's were doing 171-173. My RS2 is pushing 400bhp and felt it had more to give at the end of the straight.

I did 163 on one run, was gonna go for it on the next one and then blew it up!

On new turbo should get to 170 before it runs out of puff.

To get to 180+ and stop at brunters you need a VERY fast car.
