Hi

Well my new rig was running stable @ 3.5ghz for about 4 days, but after installing a number of programs and tweaking it a bit im having huge problems.

Now about 3-4 times a day the current open application (e.g. firefox) will begin to crash. The HDD LED flashes crazily and about 20seconds later the pc locks up and i get a BSOD. Then after rebooting detection of the HDD takes ages and normally comes up with some sort of disk failure :(

But then if i can get into the BIOS settings, the offending HDD will either be picked up, not detected, or detected and displayed as a long line of weird characters and numbers

What do you guys diagnose initially as the possible problem. I have done a system restore which didn't help at all. Also, moved the HDD from SATA port 1 on the mobo to SATA port 2.... Worked fine for a day then went wrong again.

Im going to do a low-level format tonight and re-install windows, and pray its just a corrupting windows and not a mobo or HDD problem.

O b.t.w my setup:

HDD 1 (samsung sata 160gb)
---- partition 1 (windows + programs)
---- partition 2 (music , pics, vids etc)

HDD 2 (samsung sata 200gb)
---- Games, more vids

Ye i have eased off, but it still didn't pick up the HDD even at stock settings. I thought it could be the memory but that was memtest stable for 15 hours at its highest overclock. Orthos was stable for 15 hours too

So re-installing wondows tomorrow, and will also try a new SATA cable... just in case.
