Hi everyone, I usually just read here, but this time I need to ask for some help :)

I've come to the end of my patience with the cold boot error with the current board. I can no longer run more than 1 hdd at a time. If I connect a SATA optical it runs very bad at desktop. IDE wont boot at all. The USB has never been right from the start.

Apart from the USB, I've had a good run with this board, and its only recently I've really started having a ball ache with it.

Just the other week my old GPU died, so I went from AGP to PCI-Express. AGP was the reason I went with my current board.

I'm now in a position where I need a quick fix as I cant boot in to windows without it Blue screening at the XP screen - It restarts before I can read the error.

If this is a known problem and someone knows a way around it, that would be great, I could really do without the hassle, but if it cant be sorted, will this little combination do me for the time being?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
Asus M3A AMD 770 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

I'm happy with the system that I have now as far as speed goes, but I figure if I'm going to change the chip I might as well go with the 6000 - I wont be overclocking. I need 3 PCI slots. NForce chipsets dont agree with my sound card, which I dont want to replace :)

My current train wreck is in my sig, and any help would be massivley appreciated!

Jase :)

Well sounds like a faulty PSU to me, so I will check that one first. If your friend has one just borrow it for 10sec , plug in and check.

Reset CMOS as well.

If not then it might be either board or CPU .

If you really want to upgrade get this ram http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB22GB6400C4DC)

as you dont need 1066 for that spec. I would also consider some aftermarket cooler if you aint got one yet as the retail stuff is quite noisy.

Thanks for the reply Phoenix :)

I think its down to a SATA2 HDD. I have the system running now (I'm using it) with a SATA1 drive. My main rig and all my work is on the other drive, and its stopped booting, so I think if I have to go through the hassle of installing windows on another drive, I might as well do it now with an upgrade, instead of again later.

At least this way I can upgrade again to Phenom at a later date, making it a little less hassle.

I noticed the RAM after I posted, but good looking out, thanks! I didnt realise at first there was AM2 and AM2+ - the board states it only works with AM2+ with 1066 RAM :)
