Hi, just recently when playing GTA IV i get a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION blue screen of death error.

This system has been overclocked for approx 6-8 months or so, although i had bsod's in the past, i managed to eliminate them, now i have this new one.

Anybody know why im getting this error, which i only seem to get in GTA IV? ive ran chkdsk/r and all disks are clean.

Cheers

i could try that, but have you ever seen gta iv on the pc run at stock, its sloooooow!!! :D

ive overclocked my gpu aswell, ill take that overclock off first see if its any difference, then the cpu if not.

if i carry on getting bsod's do i risk getting bad sectors on the hard disk?

cheers

I've had that exact error on a faulty processor before (AMD 2800+ Barton to be precise), It was only stable when underclocked.

So I do suspect overclocking

No way to tell, I would definitely lower the clock though, to say a fail safe overclock, something along the lines of 3.2ghz? Run the game then and see what happens.

How long were you using GTA IV for? I'd say just run prime on it tbh, see if 1 core fails and stops the test within the amount of time you had GTA running previously (at your current clock speed, 3.76ghz)

Either should at least narrow it down.

its a bugger this, i lost my hard drive and motherboard a few weeks back (p5ne sli and the 500gb hdd) shortly after the warranty expired (hardware only 1 year old), im hoping this cpu isnt dying now :o

ive took the rivatuner overclock off and lowered the cpu fsb and voltages.

Solus.. i can normally cruise on gta for hours killing people and whatnot through the day with no prolems, but maybe after half an hour a night it crashes, maybe extra stress on the processor?

I will try prime timer as suggested see if anything fails there.

Cheers everyone....

More likely the ram isn't stable at the speed and voltage.
Make sure you do a long orthos I did 2 hours orthos stable yet was getting bsod on company of heroes.
