BSoD - dos ntfs backuper needed

sorry about grammar in title :)
my sister's laptop has had the BSoD due to corrupt registry :( cant even get into safemode :mad:

i need a program i can boot into that will read NTFS so i can copy the files to a network location or cd, anybody know of one? I don't want to image the whole drive, just backup the Desktop/MyDocuments folder :)

Ubuntu Live CD, comes with GUI aswell.
