Right, trying to install XP on a new Acer Aspire M1640, the preinstalled Vista is of no use to me.

It boots from the XP cd fine, loads all the preinstallation drivers, then gives me a BSOD with the error ...
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF797A524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

which as far as i know is unreadable boot device. So i'm guessing the XP SP2 disc doesn't have any preloaded sata drivers, i've checked the Acer site and got the drivers and from what i can tell they're from Nvidia. Copied them to an SD card (new machine has a card reader in the front) and ran through the "F6" driver loading bit. Only it's asking me to insert a floppy disc with the drivers on, which the machine doesn't have!

Thankfully the mobo has an IDE setup too, so i thought i'd load the XP to the IDE unit, then setup the SATA once windows was loaded. But i get the same BSOD when using the IDE (with the SATA drive unplugged)

Any ideas? Do i have to make an XP disc with the SATA drivers preloaded? (and how the hell do i do that!)

Cheers.

Managed to get it to install on an IDE drive, by pulling the IDE dvd drive from my machine and using that instead of the SATA drive. Got XP all up and running, then the IDE drive expired on me! (yup, olde ibm unit)

Given up now, the punter gets my kickass shiney camera unit, the kids get my shuttle, the kids old machine will get rebuilt as my next camera machine and i'm stuck with this bloody acer machine. and vista (just need another 3 gig to make it usable :()
