BSOD during install of Windows 7

Hi there

Really hoping someone can help. I'm upgrading my wife's PC to windows 7 and it keeps BSODing during install.
Her Spec:
AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition 2.7GHz Socket AM2
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800Mhz
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H 740G Socket AM2 onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard
Maxtor 250gb SATA
Antec Truepower 2.0 550

This PC has been running XP 32bit fine. I took a ghost image first and then started to install windows 7 64bit. In the final installation stages it BSOD with a 0x124 Stop error.
I then booted again from cd, formatted the disk and reinstalled windows 7 and the install finished but whatever I do in the OS a few seconds later I would get the same BSOD. I could get a few memory dumps but couldn't actually do much else in the OS without it BSOD

Now after this I took out one of the memory sticks, but the OS BSOD again after a few minutes. I then ran memtest86+ and on this stick had no errors and 8 passes. I have since left the other stick out until I get everything sorted.

I put in an old 200gb IDE disk I had lying about and proceeded to install Win7 64 bit again, and again towards the end of the install it BSOD. I did do a full delete of partitions and created one new partition during the windows install.

I then also tried installing win7 32 bit on the original Sata drive but again get it BSOD during the install.
I then upgraded the BIOS as it was F1 first release which is 2008/02/01 and Gigabyte had F3 2009/06/02 available. Rebuilt Win7 64 bit on the sata drive again but same BSOD. I also then went and removed the firewire card I had, also disabled onboard nic and onboard sound and rebuilt but again it BSOD.
Finally I then put the XP ghost image back onto the disk and it's been running fine.

I'm kinda at a loss here and any help would be appreciated. As XP is running fine I'm thinking it's incompatibility or dodgy Win7 driver for one of the devices, but really not sure where to go with this now
Any thoughts or help would be very much appreciated, and sorry for the long and convulated post !

Any thoughts or ideas ? Still confused as to why XP works fine but Win7 doesn't, I'm at the point where I'm thinking win7 is gonna have to wait till I upgrade her PC ( which I only did a few months ago as she had a old Acer laptop ).

Store bought, actually OCUK bought Windows 7 Home Premium.

did a little poking around and a few folk had this problem with windows 7 with certain nvidia graphics cards (don't know which i'm afraid), if you have an nvidia graphics card in your machine try taking it out, install windows 7, reinsert the graphics card and upgrade to the latest drivers asap.

Thanks man, very valuable advice, sometimes it just takes a different viewpoint to get you going, I had been so far down the path with testing memory and trying different bios settings and disabling onboard peripherals like sound and nic that the graphics card is pretty much the only thing I didn't try changing. The MB has an onboard ATI chip which I don't think Win7 likes very much ( think it's a Radeon 2100 ). Had a spare Asus Radeon 1950Pro lying about, put that in, disabled the onboard and first time round full build with all apps on and all working fine now since yesterday, so I reckon that is that.
