BSOD errors after installing new cpu

Ive just put a 9150e in my dad's htpc replacing an athlonX2 6000+ but since the re-install the machine has been randomly BSODing ever now and then. the cpu is fully stable, and am in the process of checking the ram, so it would seem its a software issue. os is vista 64 bit, is there something i need to do on the os after a cpu install? Any help would be appreciated, thankyou.

does the bios the board is running support that cpu?

Yeah the bios supports it

double checked that, and i guess re-installing the drivers will be the best solution. Just annoying though, thought there may be a simple fix on windows but after a long search apparently not.

Have you done a fresh install or just put in the parts? If so im not suprised.

Try booting using a linux boot cd, and messing around with that.

If it crashes there then you know you've got problems.

OBVIOUSLY make sure temps are okay, as in not at 900 degrees, and you've got stuff like voltages all set correctly.

If he ain't done this, it's a pretty good bet that's the problem... but I'd think most people would reset it the second they install a new cpu... right? :confused:
