Hi all,
Stressing here - I have a new build and whilst playing MOH 2010 MP I keep getting a hard freeze sometimes BSOD. Worried that it may be a hardware issue - although I think I can rule out PSU and GFX card - tried alternatives and issue still arises.

Anybody able to see anything obvious, any suggestions?

Spec:
Os: Win7 64
Mb: Asus P6T-D V2
Cpu: i7 950
Gfx: N470SO
Ram: OCZ Gold 6Gb (3x2Gb) ddr3
Psu: Antec TPQ 1000

Heres a copy of some of the minidumps:
minidump.rar

Thanks in advance
Triv

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

First of all have you Overclocked your system? You could perhaps look at downloading a diagnostic tool for your HDD from the Manufacturers website to check it along with Memtest to test your RAM modules are not faulty. You could even try booting with just the one stick of RAM installed to see if the same issue happens.

Thanks philtorrens,
I've ran a memtest and was ok, funilly enough somebody else on another forum has mentioned running the hdd diagnostics tool earlier today. Could you explain the reasoning behind this - does the dump indicate a possible fault, or perhaps an error that can be repaired. The HDD is brand new.

Did you run Memtest for a good few hours given your running 6GB of RAM in that rig? :) The reason I suggest running the HDD diagnostic utility is the way you describe the 'freeze' and/or the BSOD. Im in work so can't open the dump file but im sure one of the other guys will be able to. Another resource I have used in the past with troubleshooting BSOD problems is who crashed, should you rule out all possible hardware and find your still getting the same problems.

Cheers - I'll run the memtest for a longer period tonight to be sure its not the memory. Am going to run the Seagate diagnostic utility too - see what that comes back with - if anything can be plucked from the dumps - any info will be greatly appreciated.

I have read that some of the powersaving settings on the motherboard bios could cause issues - will disabled these. So many possibilities I guess its just a matter of getting through them. I read somewhere that the NB voltage may need adjusting - could be valid since the N470SO is overclocked quite a bit as standard - maybe t he pci-e needs a bit more oomf!?

I just used the WhoCrashed on one of the dumps and got the following:

Code:
On Fri 11/02/2011 00:49:25 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\021111-18579-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x4A61CC)
Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x0, 0xFFFFFA8006878748, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).
This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time.

Hi All,
Thought I'd post my finding incase anybody else has a similar issue with a 0x124 with an i7 950, and Asus P6T-D .

I'd pretty much done as much hardware testing I could think of, hdd diagnostics, cpu stress tests, memory tests, swapped out gfx card - all fine.

Did some more searching on i7 and 0x124 and a few threads I found were referring to the possibility of changing BIOS settings. I'll add what I changed below - so far tested last night for a few hours MOH2010 settings maxed out, and touch wood no freezes. Hopefully none of the settings will toast my system - if any of the changes look dangerous please shout!

Changes P6T Bios:

Set the memory timings manually as per manufacturers spec
QPI/DRAM Core Voltage: 1.375
DRAM Bus Voltage: 1.6

Intel ® SpeedStep ™ Tech: DISABLED

CPU SPREAD SPECTRUM: DISABLED
PCIE SPREAD SPECTRUM: DISABLED

C1E SUPPORT: DISABLED
CPU TM FUNCTION: DISABLED
EXECUE DISABLE BIT: DISABLED

Maybe this will help some other poor soul!

Cheers Triv
