Since i updated from a e6600 platform to i5 ive been having some BSOD issues

Basically when i play games (admittedly it only happens with one game so far cod waw) i can play happily for between 15 and 45 minutes then i get a complete lock up with garbled graphics and vertical lines running down the screen , unistalled the game and reinstalled a couple of times with no joy

I ran 3dmark vantage and 2k6 to see if it was the graphics card but it ran them both fine, checked on temps are card was running around 40c idle and and 65c load, the card is a ATI 4850 fitted with a neo vortexx cooler, ive tried three different sets of CCC drivers 9.8 9.9 & 9.10

so i looked at my CPU overclock and ran the machine at stock, again here temps are quite low 30c idle 50c load with H50 cooler, still i keep getting BSOD , so i slackened timings and its still doing it

obviously every thing is pointing to the graphics card but its played cod 4 and bf2 + mods fine and theres no issue in games like football manager or at desktop browsing, another worry was my SSD , i recently flashed the firmware so im wondering if that could be the issue so i moved the game folder onto another drive but it still BSOD so maybe i can rule the SSD out ?

heres my spec:

MSI GD 80 MOBO 1.4 BIOS
I5 750 CPU @ STOCK
4GB GEIL ULTRA DDR3
ATI 4850 @ STOCK
CRUCIAL M225 64GB SSD
640GB WD BLACK
860WATT PC POWER & COOLING PSU
CORSAIR H50 COOLING
WIN 7 ULT RC

heres the BSOD i get:

I dont know what other info i can give, any suggestions what could be causing this or how to find out what could be causing this ? :(

no drivers that i can remember , just running prime 95 for an hour then i'll try memtest and moving pcie slots

thanks for the info so far :)

right well im having a mare with this , so i ran prime 95 for an hour and had no problems

ran memtest86 and straight away had issues

so on memtest option 1 (single cpu) my RAm will NOT run in dual channel mode once i start the test the pc restarts within seconds, so i took one stick out and ran the test again this is now in single channel mode, the test runs fine, exchanged the first module for the second and ran test , again this was fine so according to memtest both sticks run fine , put them both back on and ran test again, pc reboots within seconds ?

so i tried different slots DIMMS but still had the reboot issue

so then i tried the different options within memtest

option 2 (multi cpu) this just freezes before i run the test and i have to reboot

option 3 (older version of memtest 3.4) runs the test fine with both sticks installed running dual channel

So i really dont know whats going on right now, ive just reset the cmos to see if it was some setting maybe i had changed but im still getting the same results

this reboot while running dual channel points to the motherboard perhaps ?

just a quick update while im memtesting the individual pairs again, ive found that i was wrong where single/dual channel was concerned, i managed to get both sticks installed while in single channel and it still rebooted so i dont think dual channel is the issue

thanks phod, i'll try upping the volts and also Intelburntest, as for cooling the side has been off all day while ive been testing but the case antec 902 has great cooling so i dont think its a heat issue, but i will try it if al else fails :)

Ok so i upped the volts on everything and it still crashed memtest, ive ran intel burn test on high for 5 runs and it passed without a problem

Im running out of ideas, it passes memtest with one stick in but fails with two sticks in.yet both sticks are fine according to memtest ? :(

Can you borrow 2 sticks of ram from someone to try?

No i dont know anyone else with DDR3 :(

with regard to reinstall no i havent actually, but im expecting win 7 to drop thru my door tomorrow so i'll be doing a clean install then

BTW are you using MemTest86+ ?

The latest version of this is V4 available from
http://www.memtest.org

MemTest86 (without the plus sign) at V3.5 is known to reboot with 4gb and have problems with quadcores...

From Wikipedia

I didnt know that, i was using v3.5, i shall try V4 today thanks :)

If that works ok then i'll do a full clean install of win 7 and see if you are right coupe69

thanks for all the info so far , very much appreciated :)

EDIT: ok ran memtest v4 and the ram passed with no problems, so i think its safe to rule that out as the problem now ? i shall install win 7 fresh as soon as it arrives (today hopefully)

Ok well ive done a full clean install of win 7 home now , first thing i tried was game stability and its crashed after about half an hour, i then updated the chipset drivers and fingers crossed/touch wood and all that its been stable so far

it ran for 2 hours last night without a crash so im going to test it more today and see how it goes

Thanks for all the advice so far :)

@ AMG: i cant really remember because i hadnt used the pc that much since the upgrade, mainly just internet browsing and abit of home theater
