BSOD - Memory errors

Over the last few weeks I have had some BSOD Crashes. Today it did it again when I powered up the computer, it automatically launched this Windows Repair utility which after running for around 15 minutes, said it was unable to diagnose the problem. unfortunately I did not have my phone with me to quickly take a picture. If my memory serves me correctly, then these blue screens have been mentioning "PageFile" and a google after the first BSOD seemed to indicate Memory Problems.

Download a Memtest bootdisk and run it for a few hours

Excuse my stupidity but how does that work? Open it all up with 7 Zip and all I have is a bunch of unreadable files..
