My friends computer seems to have gone AWOL. When he boots it up, it gets as far as loading Windows XP screen and then a BDOS pops up saying this:

The system has been shut down.
So far he has tried:

- disconnected additonal drives
- tried recovery console
- tried safe mode
- tried restoring bios to default
