Friend's computer were running fine for nearly 2 yrs. Then recently bsods starting to appear. I ran memtest86+ a no. of times for several hours without any problem, but bsods continue to appear.

Few days ago, random characters appeared while booting (view). This happened in next 2 reboots, before random characters disappeared and she can boot into windows.

Anyone like to take a guess what the problem is?

AMD Athlon II X2 240
BioStar A780GE

Seagate 250GB ST3250318AS
Windows 7 Pro 32bit w/ SP1

I would guess at a motherboard issue, u could try checking all the cables and hardware is pluggged in properly and not come loose.

Cables checked and double checked. I suspect it is a mb issue as well, but could it be a ram problem as well? I just want to narrow down where the problem lies. What are the symptoms when mb, ram or ps go south?
