Asking this for my bro as he is at work.

Basically put the xp CD in and select it as first boot device it starts to load up the first menu where you select repair, install etc etc but as soon as the bar as finished it BSOD's with the error boot drive failure. Now considering we ain't even got into installing XP yet could boot drive error mean the cd drive is fubar

this is the screen it don't even get to before it BSOD's there is a screen before it reaches this one where it loads up stuff on the bottom bar.

i would say cd/drive error or maybe hard drive? does the bios see the hard drive ok? have you had any issue before, ie. was there a problem forcing you to reinstall windows?

It's an old mobo and cpu soket 939 bios see's the HDD's fine and the CD drive. The HDD is set to native IDE mode and not achi

the motherboard in question is http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1939#ov

wipe cd/re burn and try again.
Dodgy hdd
Dodgy cd drive
Whats the spec? Is it on a sata port with AHCI turned on or something?

edit: oh and if its got any OC on it, turn it off.

No overclock it's all at stock and the rest is as above, i thought with it failing before it even starts installing anything that it could be the CD drive which is failing or something wrong with the disc.
