Hello,

I built my first pc about a month back and it was running well until I got this blue screen. I got it once before and then I have had it about 3 times. 2 of which were last night 10 mins apart. After the pc restarts I get a windows has had an unexpected shutdown message telling me some info and the code 2057.

I really want this to stop but I know nouthing about this as I'm just a beginner.
Can some one help me out ?

Thanks

Can you provide the spec of the PC for us.

Also give us more details on the error message - either copy/paste the info listed in event viewer (control panel/administrator tools) for the crash or upload and link us to the crash dumps found in c:\windows\minidump\

Or - download and run either Whocrashed http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed or http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html and post the results back.

Thanks I will send the dmp files when I get home from work.

I have checked my pc and cannot find the dump files i did have 2 yesterday before i shutdown but not sure what has happened to them now. I done a virus scan before shutting down mabey this deleted them. So I have ran whocrashed and it shows there are none. I was thinking of updating my GPU driver to AMD 14.7 BATA as i have the 14.4 atm and thought this could help is this a bad idea ? Also I think the first BSOD showed not long after i installed an extra 8gb making it 16gb ram.

Any thoughts ? If it happens again i will be sure to post the Dump files and the whocrashed results.

Ccleaner defaults to removing memory dump files if this is a program you use (easily changed - remove the tick from "memory dumps."

PC may not be setup to log the dump files - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html

Update your vga driver and lets see what happens. If it crashes again we can look at the dump file.

Hello,

I have had another Blue screen i got the dmp file this time and whocrashed gave me this report:

On Fri 18/07/2014 23:23:56 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\071914-6318-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown (0xFFFFF80002ED3BC0)
Bugcheck code: 0x101 (0x31, 0x0, 0xFFFFF880033D7180, 0x3)
Error: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT
Bug check description: This indicates that an expected clock interrupt on a secondary processor, in a multi-processor system, was not received within the allocated interval.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.
Google query: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT

What do you guy make of them then how do i fix it ?

This I believe is generally thought of an error caused by faulty/failing hardware (although it can also be a driver.)

So update all of your drivers (graphics card, sound card, motherboard chipset, usb, usb3, network drivers etc.)

If the blue screen persists then on to testing hardware as much as possible - check hard drives/ssd wth manufacturer tools, run memtest86+ (minimum 8 passes,) prime95, monitor temps etc (just in case its a thermal issue.)

Ok i have updated the chipset driver and gpu most other ones are uptoday but i can check. Do you think it could be caused by installing an additional 8gb ram as i never had a blue screen before this.

If you problem began after adding ram then there is your place to start troubleshooting. Take the 8gb additional ram out and see how the pc is like that.

The new ram may be incompatible with your motherboard, may not like the other ram you have (ideally you want all the ram sticks to be the same brand and spec etc,) ram settings ma need to be changed in the bios etc.

The new ram i have install is the same as before both are vengeance 8gb red lp. I will take out the ram and see what happens tho as i have been getting at least one blue screen a day. I did not touch the bios after installing the new ram. What setting should be changed once I install it ?

Cheers

I have updated drivers and checked temps when running prime95 it seems normal no blue screens. I did have one later that day though. I have now taken the new ram out and have no had anything yet. If i need to how could i check the hardware to see if it all working correctly ?

From this report what do you guy have in mind that could be causing this problem ?

I would run the machine for a few days with the new ram out first to see what happens.

If you still have blue screens then as per my previous post:-

Test hard disk with the hard disk manufacturer's diagnostic tool (seagate seatools boot cd is what I generally use for this.)

Test hard disk and ssd by running crystal disk mark (checks the SMART on the drives.)

Run memtest86+ (minimum 8 passes if possible.)

Ok i think i should be fine with the other its just Memtest86+ I don't know how to use. It seems i need to put it onto a flash drive ?

You need to copy the files to the flash drive, but then the fun starts.

You then need to use something like Grub4Dos or Syslinux to install boot code into the USB drive's partition boot sector. You then edit the menu.lst file or syslinux.cfg file to add a menu item for memtest86+. edit: you also need to use diskpart to mark the partition as 'active' or it won't boot.

Finally you reboot your PC, press a vendor-specific key F12, F10, or DEL to get the PC's boot menu. There you choose to boot from the USB drive instead of your PC's internal disk.

Memtest itself will load and run without needing your input or intervention, and will display its progress on screen.

You could instead use the MS Memory Tester that's built into Windows... It's not as comprehensive but does the same thing.
