I started getting blue screens last night and automatically assumed it was because I was messing with the OC. I reset to default with a view to starting the OC from scratch. To my horror, the BSODs continued. This was late on last night so I set memtest running and went to bed. Got up this morning and memtest showed no errors. Then it dawned on me, the BSODs started after I installed Windows updates.
A system restore stops the blue screens but, as soon as I reboot the PC, the update re-installs itself and, if I shut down the PC with the 'shut down and install updates' button, it all goes Pete Tong again - even if I switch off automatic updates. If I had an earlier restore point, that might help but I don't. I need to find out which update it is and a way to stop it installing itself.
I've found a way to remove the 'shut down and install updates' by Googling but that isn't a permanent fix and, sooner or later, the damn thing will probably install itself again.
Anybody have any ideas how I might be able to track down the culprit and prevent it from installing permanently?
System specs in case they help:
Motherboard - EVGA SR-2
CPUs - 2X Xeon X5650
RAM - 24GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz
Graphics - 2X GTX 690
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate with Service pack 1 installed
I'm off out shortly so won't be able to respond to any questions until later, just in case anybody wants any more information.
