Okay, I started a thread in the graphics card section because I thought my 4870 was on its way out. Now I'm not so sure.
I've had two BSODs today (1am and 1:30pm), both after the pc has been on for quite a long time. (Having looked at system temps they seem okay...). The first one happened as I opened IE, the second was after running Everest Ultimate stability test for around 2 hours (it crashed whilst running it). (It hasn't crashed before though). Built the pc about a month ago and had no problems until today.
BSOD 1: BCCode 1000008e - and after running windows debugger it says 'probably hardware'
BSOD 2: BCCode a (ie 0x000000A from what I gather) - and windows debugger reveals ntkrnlpa.exe was probably the cause
After these BSODs the bios posting screen takes agggess to display, so not sure if that is revelant- with the first BSOD the windows loading bar looked all weird and pale looking for a while- then it went fine (that's never happened before).
Not sure what that means.. doesn't sound too good. According to the windows (vista) reliability and performance thingy I haven't installed any drivers for nearly a week (last ones to be installed were the new Intel gigabit drivers and some new wireless drivers), only the usual windows updates. I also went from a crap old Hiper 580w to a Enermax modu 82+ 525w the other day - surely that is up to powering my non-overclocked system?
I also know that on the Intel DX38BT the northbridge can get quite hot (it's hot to touch) as it's only passively cooled- could that affect it? I *think* I have plenty of air flow as I have an Antec 300 with 3x 120mm and 1x 140mm fans, and a 120mm Noctua CPU tower which I hope is enough... I ran a single pass of memtest which took over an hour and that passed with no errors. Running Furmark doesn't seem to cause any problems either (just makes the gpu squeal and the fan rev up and down).
I hope someone can work out what is going on,! Many thanks
