Well since my download speed maxes out at 0.6MB/s, i'm always up for ways to improve it. I've changed the router, checked my distance from the exchange, checked the plan i'm on and i've pretty much narrowed it down to bad wiring. So when i saw an advert for the BT 'Accelerator' i thought it might come in useful. So my questions are these:

1) Does it actually work?
2) Does it work if you're not with BT?
3) Should i get one?

Since they're available quite cheaply i assume that it's worth a try, but i want to know what you think first. Thanks :)

1) Maybe
2) Yes
3) Maybe

There's more detail in previous answers to the exact same questions in this very forum.

If you don't have any phone extensions then it wont work.
All the i-plate does is disconnect the ringer wire of the extensions which can cause them to be electrically unbalanced and susceptable to interference

So maybe it's an extension socket. It's the master socket you need, whether it's the iPlate/BT Accelerator or any other similar device.

If its a wireless router find your main socket with the bt logo on it and remove the screws and plug ur router/modem directly into it to see if its your house wires. I have mine jurry rigged into the master socket and get from 1.5Mbits to 3.5Mbits in speed and i use 2 micro filters for it and does much the same thing as far as i can tell. please correct me if im wrong. :)

I recently got one, but unfortunately it did not work for me. It even lowered my connection from 6500kbps down to 3500kbps! The connection kept loosing the sync as well with the iPlate. Now come to think of it I have just realised that we only have 1 BT phone socket here, the master socket. Of course the iPlate will not work if you only have a master socket! I also did upgrade my ADSL micro filter & modem cables to the XF-1e filter & the Belkin RJ11 shielded model cable which did make an improvement to my connection, more on the stability side though rather than speeds & I there is a significant decrease in HEC, CRC & FEC errors now too which is good. I would recommened though upgrading to a better ADSL filter & modem cable.
