BT Broadband Connection Problems

My father in law has just bought his first computer, so tonight we set it all up and all seemed to be going fine. We then came to install the BT software and the voyager 210 ADSL modem and things started to turn pair shaped. The install went fine, but we have been unable to connect to the net.

I called BT tech support who have old me there is a problem in the local area, although the only problem I can see on the BT status page was cleared this morning. I think I have been fobbed off, but I have no experience with ADSL being a cable user.

So far we have power, DSL and ethernet lights on on the modem, no internet light. Any suggestions on where to go from here. I will be trying again tomorrow night.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the reply.

In each popup that norton fired out at me I said to allow all trafic, most of those were the BT software I'll look further tonight. I have actually tried with Norton Internet Security disabled (although how disabled it is I'm never to certain).

I left it all fully shut down so it should be nice and fresh when i get back to it.
