BT Broadband fine for gaming?

Until recently I would say BT were fine for gaming, used on XBox live with no trouble for a few years, however, the last month has seen packet loss and random high pings on my line, according to BT there is no fault on the line and they even sent me a new router but though it reduced the number of packets being lost, I now synch at lower rates and still get random high pings... BT suck, but considering ALL ISP using ADSL get the BB from BT Wholesale, I doubt there would be much difference between them, all depends on the ISP's capping etc.

Up until recently I'd have said BT were good for gaming - far lower pings than people on other ISPs in the same area...

HOWEVER - the last couple of months have been terrible during peak times, ping times rising from 7-8ms to 40-70ms some days even 150+ms on the core routers. Speeds plummeting and random periods of 15+% packetloss... if it carries on I'll be looking for a new ISP shortly.

I reccomend looking at samknows to see what options you have - personally I'd be looking at bethere, AAISP (andrews and arnold), idnet - possibly sky or O2. I'd stay a very long way away from enta resellers which strangely make up a good number of the top10 as they are very varied performance wise and a lot of the outfits seem little better than fly by nights.

Fine here.... just been having odd Sync speeds as of late...keeps syncing very very low until I do a reset!

well I m with BT, it goes funny at times throughs as in slows right down particauly early hours in the monring

go with Be as that seems to be what is mostly recommended, either that or an Entanet reseller. been with ADSL24 for ages now and they're awesome for technical support.

I'm with BT and I play a decent amount of TF2 and COD4 and it's absolutely fine. My ping is usually around 40ms and I never get any lag spikes.

BT in my area of essex is shocking. When my family first signed up (as soon as it was available many years ago) we got 7.2mbps on this line, which was great! Now we're lucky to get 2mbps, and speed caps on bittorrent and iplayer are a total PITA. Busy hours it's noticeably slower, and i've tried playing crysis wars online and it's too laggy. I have tried different routers, and the homehub is total **** as expected, but line speeds still don't improve much.
