a few months ago i moved in with my gfs family and we set up a belkin wireless router in the house so i could use the net in my gfs room on my macbook/x360.
only trouble is we were only on tesco 512kb broadband, which wasnt too bad as it was unlimited.
i convinced them to register for bt broadband 8mb, option 3 with a 40gb cap and our activation day was last tuesday (2/8/06)
anyway tesco broadband stopped working tue morning, we took the old belkin router out and put our new bt home hub in its place.
it said just connect the hub to the mains, and the phoneline and it would auto set itself to the biggest speed, which we were told by the bt website would be about 3mb or so.
i know we can atleast get 2mb as i checked a site to see if it was available here about 6 weeks ago.

anyway we waited hours, then days and no broadband light on the bt home hub came on, about 4 days later and 40 phone calls to asian call centers ( ) later we were told to try using the old router, to see if it makes any difference or if it was a line problem on bts end.
saturday night i swapped them over, quickly logged into bt broadband on it and it worked.
at the start it connected at 1300kb or so, which i thought might just be teething problems.
i did as it said and didnt use the net at all for an hour, then after that had a go and the download speeds werent great.
the bt manual we got said the net will be slightly buggy for the first 24 hours, but could take upto ten days to work 100% perfect.

after about 2 hours, the net disconnected itself, and wouldnt come back on for about an hour, then it came back on, about an hour later disconned, then came back on again.
it kept doing this and has been since, and the speed seems to be getting slower, it got down to 700kb or so then this morning its gone back upto 800kb or so.

i just wanna know, is this normal or what?
i mean we were on 500kb before, and now were on 700/800 or so, paying £8 extra a month and now we have a 40gb cap.
will it sort itself out?
i know most people around here are on 8mb now.
im wondering if its still bt messing about with the line on their end after we kept ringing them telling them the net wasnt working, till we realised we had a knackered bt router

do you reckon its worth just leaving it to see if the line speed picks up, or getting onto bt now?
also when does the ten day testing period start? when the line is swapped to the new isp, or the first time you log on?

Is there any web-based browser that you can log into the home-hub & change the configs?

As I had a ticket open with BT Total Broadband for around a month (curse their Asian Call Centres!) with problems in trying to get my Mum's new wireless router to pick up her 2meg BT Total Broadband line.

I ended up resolving it by changing the protocol in the Linksys router from ADSL2+ to ADSL.

It then picked up the line no problems.

ive been checking the belkin routers settings and i cant seem to find anything i think could be wrong, its updated with the latest firmware too.
i used to have a netgear router at home which had a much better settings page on it.
the belkin one seems to be connected alright, it works on the net but its not as fast as it could be i dunno if thats the adsls teething ten days or something ive done wrong
