Just to give peeps the heads up unless you already have had an email, BT will be shutting down older email services unless you decide to pay for them at £1.60 per month.

@TALK21.COM
@BTOPENWORLD.COM

These will be shut down from the 16th of September 2013, if you have any steam games or even this forum registered to them change them to another free provider.

nah BT as shutting down older emails servers, not a scam as there is no link to change stuff via a link. They do although link you to the BT website with a special code to allow you to purchase your email account or sign up to BB.

£1.60 a month for an email service you got for free before. Not sure how many people will choose to do that if true. Unless businesses using these free emails on their stationery, vans etc...

We're closing some of our email services

Reference: B85E9571

Hello,

This summer, we're simplifying our email product range and we'll be closing some of our email services on 16 September 2013.

This means that your t***@talk21.com email address will stop working after that date.

Act now if you want to keep your email address
There are three things you can do to keep your email address and all your messages and contacts. But whichever one you pick, you must do it before 16 September.

1. If you've got BT Broadband, you can keep your email address for free
Just link your address to your BT account. It's quick, easy and free. You can find out more and follow the instructions at bt.com/linkemail. (You'll need your reference number, which we've included above.)

2. If you don't have BT Broadband, sign up to keep your email address
You can sign up for BT Broadband and then link your BT email address to it. To do that:

keep this email safe, you'll need it later
sign up to one of our broadband packages - get BT Broadband here
once you've placed your order, come back to this email and link your email address to your new account by filling in the form at bt.com/linkemail. You'll need to put in your order and fill in the form before 16 September. You'll also need the reference number above.

3. Keep your email address by signing up for BT Premium Mail
If you haven't got BT Broadband and you don't want to sign up for it, you can still keep your email address by signing up for BT Premium Mail for £1.60 a month. Find out more at bt.com/premiummail.

Don't need your email address any more?
If you're not using your BT email address or messages any more, you don't need to do anything. Your email, and any services linked with it, will stop working after 16 September.

You can find out more about these changes at bt.com/emailchanges.

Thanks.

My Mum who uses and old BT address got a message earlier this year which talked about it all and she was worried about it and I myself couldn't work out whether it was genuine or some kind of phising e-mail.

She actually spoke to BT not so long ago who confirmed it is genuine and they were sorry that the e-mail hadn't been worded and explained better.

it's such a pain in the butt switching email addresses and your bound to forget something!

I lost my account recently with virgin when I moved so started a gmail one I guess gmail will still be around in a billion years

Hmm my dad has an openworld email address and i'm sure he's been paying for it for years, but that might be because we moved from BT years ago although we are with them again now.

One amusing thing is, BT stop using Yahoo when sky start using them. Well I just hope the service I pay for to keep my btinternet email doesn't get mangled as I dont care about the others.
