BT CN21 - quick question

Im certain it will! This picture from the BT site reassures me.

Unlikely. 21CN doesn't touch the access network, only replace the ATM connection between the "BT side" of the DSLAM and your ISP with an IP connection.

I’m not massively informed, I don’t pretend to be, hopefully someone in the industry can explain it better and even correct me but this is what I understand from the information:

21CN replaces the core network infrastructure, not the local connectivity. It saves BT money and removes some of the bottlenecks and allows MORE TRAFFIC SHAPING and data prioritisation it is not an effort to increase your bandwidth. The quoted maximum speed available will be 24Mbps using some protocol and data wizardry to squeeze the very last drops out of the wire (Similar to the service some providers can offer now on ADSL2+). The “to door connectivity” is still copper as illustrated by that diagram. A very optimistic estimate would be double the ADSLmax service you can currently receive, launching in Jan 2008 and likely to arrive at your exchange on your local update (Check Sam Knows for estimated local exchange updates)

It’s a 5 year project, £3bn per annum budget and is best described by BT themselves as a change of business and infrastructure rather than technology.

We won’t see massive increases in speed unless there are some fundamental changes to the to door infrastructure, rolling out fiber to 70% of the population was estimated during the last bubble at a £23bn cost, so don’t hold your breath.

It's similar to ADSL2+, because it is ADSL2+. It's not related to 21CN, just a convenient coincidence.

It's optimistic alright. Some will certainly get more (especially if you get 8Mbps already), some will most likely get little to no change.

21CN isn't affecting the link between the customer and the Exchange but there are separate changes on the way for the line profiles at the lower end of the scale to allow for more flexibility on poor lines.
